  Introduction

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAHMS) is an integrated specialist community-based multi-disciplinary service staffed by professionals who have training and expertise in working with children, young people and their families. The service has two bases(Antrim and Ballymoney) and three teams.

The Ballymoney team services the Causeway catchment area. The team is staffed by a range of professionals including Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists; Clinical Nurse Specialists; Social Workers; Clinical Psychologists; Family Therapists and administrative support. Their training and expertise ensures a comprehensive understanding of difficulties presented allied to a well recognised range off therapeutic interventions.

 
   
 
 
  Aims

To provide therapeutic help for children / young people experiencing mental health difficulties within the NHSCT area.

To promote the psychological, emotional and social development of children and young people.

Referrals

Referrals are accepted form the following sources, but if in doubt please ask

  • General Practitioners
  • Hospital Consultants
  • Community Consultants
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Community Nurses
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Voluntary Agencies
  • Schools / Educational Welfare / School Nurses generally should refer to the Educational Psychology Service in the first instance who may then elect to refer to our service.
