Physiotherapy Department  

 

 

  Introduction

The Physiotherapy Department provides a service to hospital patients and also to out-patients from the surrounding areas. Direct referrals can be made to the department by General Practitioners and Consultants from within the trust or from regional hospitals

The bright and spacious department is one of the best in the Province, boasting one of the few hydrotherapy pools in Northern Ireland. It is equipped with the latest in electro-medical technology which includes specialist computerised muscle testing equipment and biofeedback.

The physiotherapy staff pocess a wide range of specialist expertise including:

  • Spinal & peripheral joint manipulation
  • Back care
  • Acupuncture
  • Sports Medicine
  • Isokenetics (muscle testing & retraining)
  • Women's Health

The hydrotherapy pool is staffed by a physiotherapist who has been specially trained and holds a post graduate certificate in Hydrotherapy. A wide range of treatments are suitable for hydrotherapy treatment, for example, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatic conditions, Orthapaedics and some Neurological conditions,

Pool sessions are held by paedriatric physiotherapists for children with special needs and adults with learning disabilities.

 
   
 

Woman's Health  

 

Woman's Health

As part of the physiotherapy service within the Robinson Hospital,there is an established Woman's Health and Continence service, with two members of staff highly specialised in this area.
Treatment for urinary incontinence and faecal incontinence in males is also provided.


There is also provision of antenatal care which ranges from involvement in the Early Pregnancy class, preparation for labour/Parentcraft classes and also vital input on the maternity ward in Causeway is serviced from this site. Treatment of pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain is also provided by the specialist Woman's Health physiotherapists on this site.
