Patients are admitted to the Robinson Hospital for further rehabilitation following medical illness or surgery. Patients are also admitted for further assessment of their care needs following an episode of illness.

Patients are transferred to the Robinson Hospital from local hospitals and from the regional centres in Belfast and Londonderry. The staff in these transferring units can make a referral for a community bed if the patient is assessed as needing “step down” care. Patients can also be “stepped up” by their own GP to a community bed if it is felt to be appropriate. Admissions are typically 1-2 weeks: the Robinson Hospital does not offer long term care.
