Poetry Day 2024 at The Robinson Memorial Hospital

On 25th April 2024 The Robinson took part in Poetry Day, promoted by Poetry Ireland, with an event “There’s a Poem in This Place”.

Patients and staff were encouraged to think of a favourite poem. This stimulated memories, often from school days, of poems; some popular within the family, others taught by rote in class. Poems were laminated and given to patients, with health care assistants offering to read them if desired. Dementia volunteer, Lisa, also helped use poetry as an activity with patients.

A particular favourite was a poem selected by International Nurse Vijay Vande Mataram (Mother, I bow to thee).

Thank you to everyone who took part!
